carving space
find a little nook to create your art
yancey towne’s art making is a weekly peek into the art studio to share learnings, current projects, and inspiration. Making art is what teaches us who we are, what we believe in, and what we can create… here’s to finding yours.
This is my little painting nook. It’s transformed over the years as I’ve gotten clearer about how I want to use the space. The more I get it dialed in to my workflow the easier it is for me to pop in for a few minutes or a few hours.
Evenly spaced nails in the wall allow me to move pieces around as I work on them and rotate them as needed.
The wall is where I paint with acrylics and the standing desk is for my watercolors, gouache, and sometimes computer work. Standing is my preferred way of workings I can move my body as I work and check in with my posture as I go. 💛
current projects
knits: What my knitted triangles look like from the back-side. Part of me is curious to make a sweater with this side facing out. I’m getting close to wrapping up the colors, then it will be back to black.
watercolor: I’m practicing how busy I want to make these and how much texture to paint in. I’ve got most of the color down in the few I am working on, but still need some more blue…
patterns: Nature walks are my favorite ways to fill back up. I’m a bit of of practice walking to work, but I’ve been taking the pups around some. During the day the crows follow too, calling for snacks and swooping along the way. I keep my eyes open to colors, textures, and patterns. Sometimes I snap a pic, and sometimes I just let it soak in.
paint: A finished piece from a small handful I’m working on at the moment. I’m trying to bring some of the lessons I’ve learned in my watercolor experiments to this paint. It’s a bit tricky, but the experimenting is fun. My challenge is remembering to play. The more I play the more I learn.
